  1. Hi Sarah,
Looks like you have some good experience and should easily be able to find a teaching position. Here are a few suggestions for your resume: List out the BIS degree, Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies in Early Childhood Education and Music. Don't list University College since that's not your degree. Take off HS! List your past positions from most recent first.

  2. Sarah:
I liked your resume. You did put some things on it that were irrelevant at this point in your career but it was filled with alot of information about you. I read your comments on responsibility and teaching and I am pleased that you are thinking and concienscious of this. Teaching I feel is one of the biggest most important jobs in our world. When I have taught I have always had a deep concern that I was not delivering the information in a way that everyone can get it. There are so many different personailities and different ways people learn, the responsibility to me seems daunting. Teaching elementary students is also big, you are the one that is setting the course of their lives. How they interact and perform and process life. It takes a special person to teach the young of our world. I am sure that you are qualified. Don't give up. I hear quite frequently that some teachers get territorial or have control issues. I just believe it is exactly what you were concerned on the huge responsibility it is to make sure your students learn and grow. I hope you continue to grow and not let one experience taint your positive outlook and career goals.

  3. Hi Sarah,
It seems that you have much in experience in the way of teaching and working with children. I am sure that you will find your spot in the teaching world and do a wonderful job. As far the minor challenges you are facing with your mentor, you should address them0--in a nice way. Possibly, suggest to her that you would like to teach an entire day as she observes for a "final" project of yours as an intern under her supervision. If not teaching a whole day, maybe at least be in charge of a major activity for the students. After that, perhaps she'll recognize your talent and dedication and let you hold the reigns more often.

    Good luck,
    Sunday Daniels

  4. Hey Sarah,
I was impressed with your resume. An early childhood educator has such an important job. The child, at that age, is learning at such a rapid pace. With your music background, I am sure you will incorporate music into your lessons often. Since all children learn differently, making music an essential part of classroom instruction can be helpful to the auditory learner and to the learner that is musically gifted. In response to the challenges that you are facing with your mentor, she is probably one of those people who has a difficult time giving up the reigns. Hang in there and know that you will get your chance.
